NELU: Good evening everyone and welcome to TAINE FOLK Live Show on WBAA 920 AM. We are Gena and Nelu Lazar from Romania and we are members of the folk music group TAINE FOLK from Brasov. We’ll present you a story about a “Lost dream” that “Revives” in “Flowers of May” far away, somewhere in the “Land of the mountains”.
GENA: And speaking of the “Land of the Mountains”, this will be the first song played tonight. The lyrics of this song where written by ROMELL ALAMAN, our friend and other Taine Folk member. We are very sad that he is not here with us, faith deciding to keep us apart for a while.
NELU: Romell’s lyrics talk about a wanderer who chooses the path of the mountains, running away from a lost love.

GENA: This song and others that you will listen tonight were recorded by ourselves using an improvised music studio. We made all the processing, played some of the instruments and all vocal and also made the musical arrangements. We gathered these tracks on an audio CD entitled “TAINA – The mystery”.
NELU: And here is another song from this CD. It’s called “Flori de mai – Flowers of May” and is a love song, a dedication from myself to my wife Gena.

 TAINE FOLK :: FLORI DE MAI – FLOWERS OF MAY (3:00)

NELU: We performed live many times in Romania and we have here some samples from one of these concerts. There is a beautiful song composed by a very popular folk group from Romania, named POESIS. This song’s lyrics were written by Mircea Micu, member of Poesis, and its name is “Nu am mai fost acasa demult – I haven’t been home since a long time”.
GENA: Probably you already guessed the theme of this song. It’s about missing home and the ones we love. We would like to dedicate this song to Romanian people from all over the world. Surely they miss home, our wonderful country from South Eastern Europe. Surely they hold in their souls parents, friends and all the beauties of Romania.
The Carpathians, with great sights to look at and their barren peaks rising high above slopes covered with dark green woods through which quick rivers and torrents flow down into the valley, are very impressive.
NELU: The Danube Delta, at the point where the second longest river in Europe flows into the Black Sea, its wild beauty and rich fauna and flora, have been constant attractions to ever increasing numbers of tourists from all over the world. GENA: Besides natural richness of Romania we have a lot of very good and popular musicians. In one of our concerts we played a cover song of one the most beloved rock band from Romania, named Phoenix.
NELU: The song is called “Pasarea Phoenix – Phoenix bird”. Its lyrics, written by Serban Foarta and Andrei Ujica, are talking about reviving from the ashes like the prehistoric bird.

NELU: Singing about reviving, the next song demands carrying the nature, for it is the one who keeps us alive. An English translation of some of this song’s lyrics sounds like that: “You, people, learn to fondle in ancient forests, giving them life our ancestors will revive!”.
GENA: This song’s music and lyrics were composed by Nelu. Here is “Renastere – Revival” from our DEMO CD “Taina – The mystery”.

 TAINE FOLK :: RENASTERE – REVIVAL (3:09)

NELU: In Romania we are members of the Mountain Club “Floare de Colt – Edelweiss” from Brasov. Together we played the song you just listened during the Mountain Clubs’ National Championship, a contest that unites more than 50 Romanian Mountain Clubs in friendship. In such a contest participants combine physical skills, like hiking, climbing, cross running, sportive orientation and so on, with surviving knowledge and creative and cultural talent.
GENA: At the end of each day, while they are in the middle of the nature, all of them enjoy the huge camp fire, beautiful live songs, guitars, poetry and nature stories. The next song is also a story from the surrounding nature, recalling the sounds of the springs. Here is the song “Izvoare – Springs”, composed by Nelu and performed live in one of our concerts.

Each year, in December, take place in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, the National Folk Music Festival named “Om Bun – Good Man”. One year, this folk music contest was wined by our friends Mihaela and Codrut Beleaua, founders of the folk music group, named “Om Bun” – “Good Man”, the same as the festival.
GENA: We sang together in many concerts, some of them ending with a jam session. Next track is one of their great compositions, called the same as the band – “Om Bun”.

NELU: During the 70’s and beginning of 80’s there was a huge folk music phenomenon happening in Romania. That was a cultural caravan named “Cenaclul Flacara – Flame Musically and Literary Circle” which had many musicians, poets and artists going from town to town, promoting Romanian folk music and poetry.
GENA: In one of our concerts we performed a cover song of Doru Stanculescu that used to play this song in “Cenaclul Flacara” Festival. This is “Fara petale – Without petals”.

NELU: The next track is a great song composed by Mihaela and Codrut Beleaua, members of the Om Bun folk music group. It’s called “Descantec – Spell” and we invite you to listen to it.

GENA: “Cine sunt? – Who am I?” is a song composed by our friend Romell Alaman. Back in Romania we played this song in one of our concerts.

NELU: This is an Adrian Ivanitchi song, named “Arsura – Burn”, performed live by our friends from Om Bun folk music group. This song was also played in Cenaclul Flacara festival, the festival that we remind of it a few minutes ago. So this is “Arsura”.

GENA: A story about a “Lost dream” that “Revives” in “Flowers of May” far away, somewhere in the “Land of the mountains” is the thematic of our DEMO CD “Taina – The mystery”. This CD was presented to public for the first time at Radio Romania International, in a live show hosted by our friend Roxana Iorgulescu. We want to dedicate this song to Roxana.
NELU: The first of the two last songs played this night, “Visu’ pierdutu’ – The Lost Dream” is a song from this CD and also one of the tracks contained in our finalized but unrecorded folk opera named “Zmeul Muntelui Zeu – God of the Mountains, the Deity”. And the last song of tonight’s Taine Folk live show gives the name of our DEMO CD “Taina – The Mystery”.
